Intoximeters Intoximeters, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of alcohol detection devices available to the public and law enforcement. Intoximeters, Inc. offers portable and stationary breath testing machines to determine the amount of alcohol in a person's body. In additional to manufacturing the devices, Intoximeters offers training on the maintenance of the devices. Intoximeters, Inc. is based out of St Louis, Missouri. Intoximeters Inc. was founded by Dr. Glenn Forrester in 1945. Dr. Forrester had been working for some years prior to that on a process to capture alcohol from a breath sample. When Intoximeters, Inc. was founded, Dr. Forrester had already manufactured his first portable device used in collecting evidence for DUI cases. Intoximeters Inc. introduced the Alco Sensor device in the 1970's. This device was a hand held portable alcohol screening device which was a valuable addition the normal police equipment that a police officer has. The Alco Sensor product line is still in production today and is one of the best alcohol screening devices available. They are commonly reffered to as breathalyzers. In the 1980's, Intoximeters Inc. recognized that computers were the future. As a result of the technology that computers provided, Intoximeters introduced the first desk top alcohol screening device with a computer in it. The computer allowed police officers to obtain personal information from the subject being tested, and receive a print out at the conclusion of the test that could be attached to the report. In the 1990's, Intoximeters Inc. began to manufacture the Alco Sensor IV. The Alco Sensor IV consisted of a fuel cell signal that is integrated, and that integration is used in the determination of the alcohol concentration. This concept allows the Alco Sensor IV to be accurate and on the same level as a desktop evidential system. The Alco Sensor IV is available with or without a memory option. The memory option allows the device to electronically store the data which can then be transferred to a computer. To date, the Alco Sensor IV is one of the most popular and reliable breath detection devices. In 1993, Intoximeters Inc. replaced their original desktop model with a new one, Intox EC/IR. As with the Alco Sensor IV, the Intox EC/IR is a fuel cell based unit. The Intox EC/IR is still being used in several states and United Kingdom as an evidentiary unit. As time passed, Intoximeters Inc. continued to be one of the leaders in the industry. In 2000, Intoximeters Inc. introduced the first Point of Arrest system. The Point of Arrest system was instrumental in DUI cases because the Point of Arrest is a roadside evidential testing device. Thus, eliminating the common defense of "rising blood alcohol." This system is contained in a durable case the size of a briefcase. Inside the case is portable Alco Sensor IV with a small computer and a printer. The officer is able to administer the test immediately after making an arrest. After more than 15 years of manufacturing the Alco Sensor IV, Intoximeters Inc. introduced an updated version, the Alco Sensor FST. The Alco Sensor FST is based on the same concept, but offers integral design features that are aimed at enhancing operator safety during its use. The Alco Sensor FST is also able to be used a passive testing device in large groups of people. While most people tend to think breath detection devices are just another piece of police equipment, these devices are growing daily in popularity in the industrial markets. Some of those markets include workplace testing, emergency rooms, drug and alcohol treatment centers, Universities, High Schools, and personal testing. While these types of markets do not have to be held to the same evidentiary standards for law enforcement, they are very helpful to the employers. Driving a fork lift under the influence of alcohol can be just as dangerous as driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Intoximeters Inc. has been manufacturing breath detection devices for quite some time. During this time, they have always been the leading company to introduce the latest technology. They still continue to push the breath detection device industry to the edge and are highly recommended by most police officers.
