Kustom Signals Kustom Signals designs and manufactures radar guns, lidars, radar speed trailers, and in-car video systems. Kustom signals is one of the leading distributors of radars and lidars to law enforcement agencies. Kustom Signals was founded in 1965 and is based out of Missouri. Most of Kustom Signals products are designed to assist law enforcement officers with speed detection. The two most popular speed detection product lines that Kustom Signals offers are the radar and lidar. What exactly is the difference between a radar and a lidar? The big difference is the way the two devices obtain the speed. Radar devices uses radio waves to detect the speed of the car. When the radar is activated, radio waves are sent out. The radio waves then look for an object to bounce off. The waves then are sent back to the radar and the speed is calculated based on the time it takes the radio waves to get back to the radar device. Radars are available in hand held and stationary devices. The stationary devices can be used when the target vehicle and police car are moving in the same direction or approaching each other. Lidar devices don't use radio waves to determine the speed. When a lidar is activated, the device sends out hundreds of laser bursts in less than a second. The laser bursts then reflect off an object and are sent back to the device. The device then determines how far away the object is by taking the time it took to return to the device and multiplying it by the speed of light. The lidar will compare all of the results and then is able to determine how fast the car is going. The lidar is extremely accurate because an officer can pin point which car they want to know the speed of. Because of the way the lidar operates, it is only available in a hand held version and can't be used when moving. Kustom Signals offer the following popular hand held radar models: Falcon HR, Talon II, Directional Talon, and Falcon Marine. The Kustom Talon II radar is one of the most common radars used by police officers. The reason for that is because the Talon II is able to operate as a handheld device or dashmount by simply sliding it into a bracket on the dash. The Kustom Talon II can also be used in a moving mode while on the dash, thus allowing for the police officer to determine the speed of vehicles while driving the police car. Kustom Signals saw the increasing number of injuries on the waterways as a result of speeding boats and jet skis. In an effort to reduce the number of people killed or injured, Kustom Signals developed the Falcon Marine to monitor the speed of boats and jet skis. This hand held radar is designed specifically to operated on a boat and withstand the weather conditions. The radar has the ability to display speeds in knots or miles per hour. Kustom Signals manufactures several different models of radars designed specifically for dashmount only. Some of the popular models are the Raptor RP-1, Eagle II, PRO-1000 DS, and the Motorcycle Eagle. The PRO-1000 DS is very popular due to its size and accuracy. The Raptor RP-1 is the latest radar designed by Kustom Signals. The Raptor RP-1 offers the smallest radar available and displays the speed on a small LCD screen. With the small size of the Raptor RP-1 it can easily be mounted anywhere in the patrol car and not obstruct the driver's view. Kustom Signals didn't forget about the motor officers. The Motorcycle Eagle is built to withstand the weather conditions while affixed to the motorcycle. The Motorcycle Eagle can be easily affixed to the motorcycle and does not take that much room up. When it comes to Lidars, Kustom Signals offers two great models. Those models are the ProLaser III and Pro-Lite +. The ProLaser III design makes it easy for a police officer to handle. The ProLaser III is extremely accurate and makes speed enforcement easy. With the LaserCam II attached to the ProLaser III, digital photos of the speeders can be obtained. The LaserCam II offers a great tool to police officers when having to testify in court. Nothing beats a picture! Kustom Signals newest lidar is the Pro-Lite+. The Kustom Pro-Lite+ shape is similar to binoculars making it easy to handle and operate. The shape also reduces the eye strain on the officers. Although the Pro-Lite+ is small in size, it is very accurate and can obtain speeds from vehicles up to 2,000 feet away. It operates on two standard AA batteries and can work for up to 30 hours before the batteries need to be replaced. Speed education is a key element in reducing the number of speeders and traffic collisions. Kustom Signals offers many designs in radar trailers. The most popular design is the Smart Model. The Smart Model is a portable trailer that can easily be towed from location to location. The Smart Model radar trailer has a radar inside it and a "your speed" display screen. With the addition of the Smart traffic statistics computer, law enforcement agencies are able to easily monitor the results of the speed trailer. No matter what your needs are, Kustom Signals has a radar or lidar to fit your needs.
